Days to Remember:
- Garbage and Recycling pickup is Tuesday of each week
- Brush pickup is the last Thursday of the month

Reminders:
- Spring has sprung and summer is on its way. Please watch for children playing and crossing the streets.
- Water, sewer, garbage, and recycling are billed quarterly. You may make monthly payments on your bill if you wish to do so.
- Parking on Main Street is prohibited year round from 2:30am – 6:00am. If your vehicle is parked on Main Street during these hours you will be ticketed by the police department.

Dog Licenses and Other Dog Information:
- Dog licenses are due yearly on January 1st.
- If you have a dog five months or older it needs to be licensed.
- Licenses may be purchased at City Hall.
- Cost of licenses are:
- Neutered/spayed - $3.00
- Regular male/female - $8.00
- Vaccination papers are required and proof of dog being neutered or spayed.
- The City has a limit of two dogs per residential unit. New litters may be kept up to ten weeks from birth. Reference city ordinance 7-1-19 for more details.
- The City has a pooper-scooper ordinance for dogs. Please clean up after your pet so others won’t step in the mess!!!
- If you find a lost dog or your dog is missing, please contact the Greenwood Police Department. The police department will try to assist you. If the owner is not located, the dog will be taken to the Clark County Humane Society.

Public Works 2009 Street Projects:
- North Andrews from Division Street to Begley Street.
- School Street from Hendren Avenue to Main Street.
- West Division Street from Hendren Avenue to Main Street.
- Reese Street off of West Miller Street
Building Permits:
- Any resident in the city who is building or remodeling must apply for a building permit if the cost exceeds $1,000.
- Roofing your house does not require a permit.
- Contact City Hall prior to starting a project to apply for a permit.

- Each $1,000 or fractional thereof in excess of $15,000 is $1.00.

- If building a new home or adding onto a home built after 1980, it will need to be inspected by a certified building inspector. Stop in at City Hall prior to starting any work to pick up an information packet and the name of a building inspector.
NOTE: ALL BUILDING PERMIT APPLICANTS MUST FIRST MEET WITH THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS BEFORE THE PROJECT MAY BEGIN. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN FORFEITURE.
Burning Limitations:
- No materials may be burned upon any street, curb, gutter or sidewalk.
- Persons utilizing and maintaining outdoor fires shall be responsible for any liability resulting from damage caused by the fire.
- Ordinance 5-2-10 states only leaves, grass, paper, and other readily combustible materials may be burned in closed rubbish burners or incinerators. No person shall burn any plastic, tires, garbage, oily rags or other material likely to produce objectionable smoke or odors when burned.
Tree Maintenance and Lawn Care:
- Trees need to be trimmed if standing in or upon any public street or place.
- Trees should be trimmed so that the lowest branches projecting over the street will provide a clearance of not less than 14 feet and a clearance of not less than 7 feet over a public place or sidewalk.
- The city crew requires all branches to be cut into 4-foot lengths, bundled, and placed to the curb for monthly pick-up (last Thursday of the month).
- Ordinance 8-1-6 states grass which exceeds eight (8) inches is a public nuisance.
- If owner or occupant neglects to cut any lawns as required, they will be given five days to comply. If after five days compliance has not been met, the city crew shall mow the lawn and said charge shall be assessed against the property.
- The city compost area, located on Rustic Lane, will be open daily for anyone wanting to haul leaves, grass clippings, brush or branches. Please empty bags onto the pile and take the empty bags back home with you. Thank you.
House Numbers:
- Ordinance 6-2-13 requires that all city residents have house numbers placed on their home or building.
- Numbers shall be conspicuously placed immediately above, on, or at the side of the property door of each home or building so they can be seen from the street.
- The cost of the house numbers shall be the responsibility of the property owners.
- Numbers shall be no less than two and one-half (2-1/2) inches in height.
- Please make sure your house numbers are highly visible to assist our Police, Fire and Ambulance Departments.
Inclement Weather:
- The City of Greenwood has implemented an emergency government plan.
- If a TORNADO WARNING has been issued, the Forward Financial Bank basement at 212 S. Main Street will be open and available for immediate shelter from the storm. The entrance to the basement is on the east side of the building.
- The basement is not handicapped accessible, so if you need assistance please contact City Hall.
Odds and Ends:
- You may pick up bicycle licenses at City Hall if you like. Cost is $1.00.
- If you’re going on a vacation, please feel free to stop in at City Hall and fill out a security check form. The Greenwood Police Department will then check your house on a daily basis while you are gone having fun.
- The City of Greenwood code of ordinances is now available for viewing on the web at www.municode.com. Click on “Online Library” to get started.
- New landscaping will be done at the City Hall Park. Special thanks go out to the Main Street Committee for the design.
- The Greenwood Police Department will be having an Open House on Monday, April 27, 2009, from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. The new police department is now located at 101 W. School Street.

Garbage and Recycling Information:
- Garbage and recycling service is contracted to Veolia Environmental Services.
- The City of Greenwood has an outstanding recycling program. This is due to the good work of the residents. Recycling takes time, but it’s well worth the effort.
- Veolia has advised its drivers to not pick up garbage they suspect has recyclables in it.
- Recycling bins are available at City Hall. Remember recycling bins and garbage must be set out at the curb by 7:00 a.m. Or they may not be picked up.
- 35, 65 and 95 gallon garbage carts may also be ordered at City Hall. The cost is 89 cents per month, which will be added to your garbage/recycling bill.
- Below is a reminder of what is recyclable:
- Aluminum cans – include used beverage cans only.
- Container glass – glass must be washed or rinsed with caps and neck rings removed. Labels can remain on the glass. Glass should not be broken. “Glass” does not include ceramic cups, dishes, ovenware, plate glass, safety and window glass, heat resistant glass such as Pyrex, lead-based glass such as crystal, or TV tubes.
- Corrugated cardboard – include clean cardboard only. It must be flattened and bundled. Bundles are not to be more than 12 inches high, 24 inches wide and 36 inches long. Does not include waxed cardboard or chipboard such as cereal boxes, shoe boxes, and similar materials. CARDBOARD MAY ALSO BE TAKEN TO MAYVILLE’S MARKET.
- Newspaper – include newspaper and advertisements.
- Mixed paper – include all grades of paper such as white, colored, ledger, shiny, coated, carbonless or NCR papers; envelopes, including windowed, labeled and craft, magazines, phone books, computer print out paper, glued pads and tablets, file folders, keypunch cards, spiral notebooks, cereal boxes, shoe boxes, etc.
- Can include paper clips and staples.
- Does not include hand towels or other paper products from restrooms or soiled napkins and paper plates. Also does not include carbon paper, cellophane or any waxed paper.
- Please place mixed paper in a brown paper bag or bundle but not more than 12 inches high.
- Plastic bottles:
- Must include only plastic bottles clearly marked with the recycling emblem encircling the #1 (PET or PETE) or the #2 (HDPE).
- Caps and neck rings must be removed.
- Rinse all bottles.
- Most desirable plastic is bottles with necks.
- Tin cans:
- Shall include tin coated metal cans, which must be rinsed.
- Labels must be removed.
- Both ends must be cut out, and cans must be flattened. Cut out ends are recyclable.
- Tin cans with “molded or round bottoms” can be recycled without the bottom removed, provided the can has been rinsed and labels have been removed.
- Waste oil and batteries – Must be taken to a local service station.
Veolia will pick up small quantities of building materials each week. Small quantities would be a garbage bag or trash can full per week at no extra charge. If you have any questions regarding larger items please call Veolia at (888) 271-7176.
NOTICE:
It shall be unlawful for any person, unless under contract with the City of Greenwood or unless said person receives permission from the Director of Pubic Works, to remove any recyclables as defined in section 8-3-7 which have been placed in the approved recycling bin and placed at the street or alley for collection. First offense will be a written warning. For second and subsequent offenses, a forfeiture of not less than $10.00 or more than $50.00, plus costs, shall be imposed.
